THE ART OF BREAKING THE GROUND

THE ART OF BREAKING THE GROUND

A special screening of the demoscene documentary „The Art of Breaking the Ground” will be held at DATASTORM.

The documentary also tries to answer the question: why retro hardware has so much creative potential despite all its inherent limitations and how those limitations have been disappearing as the technology advances.

About the movie

„The Art of Breaking the Ground” is a documentary exploration of the demoscene culture in Poland. It is an effort to show a subculture that has survived tremendous changes in digital technology despite the fact that it is heavily dependent on it.

The film is an attempt to understand the phenomenon of the demoscene: why people continue supporting it and why they return to retro hardware after years to create audio-visual art with very distinctive aesthetics that clearly tells it apart from what you can witness in art galleries.

RAYCORE PRESENTS CHRIS HÜLSBECK

RAYCORE PRESENTS CHRIS HÜLSBECK

It’s official! Thanks to RAYCORE, the man behind timeless game soundtracks such as Giana Sisters, Turrican and Z-Out is coming to DATASTORM to talk about his 16-bit adventures. Chris Hülsbeck not only did amazing soundtracks, but also programmed one of the first trackers (Soundmonitor) and one of the first interactive music games (To Be on Top).

Today, he’s working on even more orchestral versions of the Turrican soundtracks. But did you know he’s also making new Amiga music using his own TFMX-editor, that he used back in the days? How bout that! If you’re lucky, you might even get to hear some of that at DATASTORM..

TWICE AS BIG, TWICE AS FUN!

TWICE AS BIG, TWICE AS FUN!

From now on, DATASTORM is a summer party, and that means that the next one is already in September! There will be no more winter editions of DATASTORM.

But that’s not the only change. We’re expanding and making it twice as big!

This year we’ll have:

  • A fat tent on the outside, to serve all your data party needs.
  • One big ass outdoor big screen.
  • There will also be a bar on the outside for the perfect cocktail data experience, serving summer drinks and beer, yes, this time we will have two bars.
  • We will have a BBQ selling nice food and drinks on the outside as well.
  • There will also be a separate stage on the outside hosting concerts and DJ’s.
  • The inside will be customized for hardcore data action, for finishing all of your juicy compo entries. More tables will be available on the inside than usual.
  • Think festival outside and hardcore data inside.

And we still haven’t revealed all the news, more juicy stuff to come!

So grab your ticket at https://summer-2017.datastorm.party and spread the word:

DATASTORM IS BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!

We love doing this and we’d love seeing you at DATASTORM on September the 1:st!

SM0GTOM80 LIVE

SM0GTOM80 LIVE

Behind this cryptic name is Sm0hm and Goto80, who have secretly been doing live improvised jams with C-64, drum machines and various Elektron machines for a few years now. At DATASTORM you will get to witness the world premiere of a new setup of C-64, TR-808 and a custom-coded FM soft synth. Nobody knows exactly what’s going to happen but we think you can expect eerie and melodic IDM, bassy electro and tricky rhythms.

To get an idea, you might want to check out Sm0hm’s handheld jam with his own music interface for the Nord Drum 2, or one of Goto80’s C64-improvs.

BACCHUS CRACKS THE WORLD

BACCHUS CRACKS THE WORLD

Bacchus is one of the most well-known faces of the C64 cracking scene in Scandinavia, and he’s released something in the scene almost every year since 1987. So we’re very happy that he’s coming to DATASTORM to talk a bit about cracking, coding tools, leading Fairlight, and so on.

Some of you may know Bacchus as a reporter for Datormagazin back in the days. Others may have seen him talk about cracking and warez in the media. Even so, we’re sure that he’s going to share some stories that you’ve never heard before at DATASTORM!

AMIGA CRACKING

AMIGA CRACKING

Conqueror of Defjam/Fairlight/Horizon/Etc will join us at DATASTORM to talk about a big part of the Amiga heritage that few have had any real insight into. The early days of the Amiga cracking scene.

Conqueror was a member of a lot of the big crews back then. He cracked, trained and onefiled games among other things.

How did they get their dirty fingaz on the originals so fast? Which game was the hardest to crack? How did they get them spread around the globe so fast without the internet? Was money involved and to what degree? Visit DATASTORM to find out!
